EU Constitution
Democracy is dead
The European Union is often referred to as an elitist project that does not have widespread public support. Considerable effort has gone into exposing and analyzing the democratic deficit of the EU. Inherent to this debate is the notion of legitimacy. As Scharpf (1970) argues, legitimacy builds upon principles of the authorization of power holders, responsiveness in the exercise of power and accountability. The democratic deficit is a lack of legitimacy in that EU decisions are not sufficiently responsive to public preferences and scrutiny (Scharpf, 1997). This gap between elite opinion and public opinion on European integration has also been established in more empirical terms showing differences in the areas in which political elites and European publics are willing to confer power to the EU (Hooghe, 2003).
The EU elite wanted to implement a EU constitution which would draw more power to the EU elite away from the European nations. According to the Robert Schuman Foundation the aim of the European Constitution was to improve the efficiency of the Union's institutions and make them more democratic. More democratic? By taking away power from nation states? Perhaps the most defining characteristic of globalization is the increase in extreme inequality between the ruling elite and the common people. The EU is of course no exception to that rule. An Economist article of 2018 is titled As inequality grows, so does the political influence of the rich - Concentrated wealth leads to concentrated power. The referenda showed that the gap between EU elite and the European people was larger than ever and thus also that democracy was at a record low point in history...
European Constitution (2004)
The Treaty was signed on 29 October 2004 by representatives of the then 25 member states of the European Union. It was later ratified by 18 member states, which included referendums endorsing it in Spain and Luxembourg. However, the rejection of the document by French and Dutch voters in May and June 2005 brought the ratification process to an end.
Here we see again that the "elected" power elite of individual European nations are mostly pro-EU puppets of the EU because they simply signed the treaty. Perhaps for the last time in the history of dying out democracy referanda were organized to let the people vote for this crucial matter...
Referenda France and the Netherlands (2005)
Despite a massive pro-EU propaganda campaign instigated by the globalist EU elite, the people of France and the Netherlands voted a clear 'No' with the democratic 2005 referandum in France (55% No) and the Netherlands (61.6% No). This resulted in the UK elite to cancel the UK referendum and the Danish elite to cancel their Danish referendum in order to prevent an even larger loss of face for the EU elite. Anders Fogh Rasmussen was at that time prime minister of Denmark, later he became head of NATO, the Anglo-American war machine. Eventhough the government of Ireland signed the "Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe" on 29 October 2004 without the consent of the Irish people, a poll showed that the people would massively vote against it and the planned referendum in Ireland was also canceled.
Treaty of Lisbon (2007)
The constitution was superseded by the Treaty of Lisbon. The UK Parliament ratified in 2008 without holding a referendum. The Danish parliament ratified the Treaty of Lisbon without a referendum. Etcetera. Despite the clear rejection by the European people the EU elite simply continued with their EU constitution after canceling all subsequent referenda. On 13 December 2007 the leaders of EU member states simply signed the Treaty of Lisbon which amends the two treaties which form the constitutional basis of the European Union.
Referenda Ireland (2008 & 2009)
Due to Irish law later in 2008 the Irish people were asked to vote for the Treaty of Lisbon and they rejected it by a margin of 53.4% to 46.6%. The Irish people also denied the elite's desired constitution, the EU elite simply planned a second referendum. Here's what happened...
To come into force, the Treaty needed to be ratified by all EU member states, so when Ireland rejected the Lisbon Treaty in a referendum in June 2008 there was intense debate and speculation about the future of the Lisbon Treaty. The EU decided to take measures to encourage Ireland to ratify the Treaty: a number of 'protocols' were negotiated and added to the Treaty. Ireland then successfully ratified the Treaty following a second referendum in October 2009.
According to the Irish Times news report below, a meeting is taking place in Brussels today between the entire EU Commission and Mr Martin Territt, Head of the EU Commission Representation in Ireland, to discuss how the Commission can influence Irish opinion in the lead-in to Ireland's re-run of the Lisbon referendum next October.
I remember that the Dutch government started a massive pro-EU propaganda campaign in order to influence the people's vote. Anthony Couglan noted on his blog that There has been massive interference by the European Commission in Ireland's Lisbon referendum re-run over the past month, as never happened before in the country's EU referendums. This probably happened in every EU country. The EU elite manufactured the consent of the Irish people by means of propaganda and coercion. This is how managed democracy works.
Wolves in sheep's clothing
Here's what the globalist EU elite think about democracy... Valéry Giscard d'Estaing said that The Treaty of Lisbon is the same as the rejected constitution. Only the format has been changed to avoid referendums. Jens-Peter Bonde repeated that and added the content of the new Treaty was the same as in the rejected Constitution, but the format had changed from a legible Constitution to two sets of incomprehensible Treaty amendments. The idea of just changing the name of the Constitution and pretending that it is just another complex treaty shows a total contempt for voters. So the content of the treaty is essentially the same as that of the rejected constitution. The Economist reported that Jean-Luc Dehaene declared it "dangerous talk" to want too much "transparency and clarity" in the EU. Dehaene strongly criticised the idea of a referendum saying We know that nine out of 10 people will not have read the Constitution and will vote on the basis of what politicians and journalists say. More than that, if the answer is No, the vote will probably have to be done again, because it absolutely has to be Yes. source)
The new EU reform treaty text was deliberately made unreadable for citizens to avoid calls for referendum... Speaking at a meeting of the Centre for European Reform in London on Thursday former Italian prime minister Giuliano Amato said: They [EU leaders] decided that the document should be unreadable. If it is unreadable, it is not constitutional, that was the sort of perception.
Giuliano Amato said The good thing about not calling it a Constitution is that no one can ask for a referendum on it. This striking quote was also mentioned in the book The Great European Rip-off: How the Corrupt, Wasteful EU is Taking Control of Our Lives. Clive H. Church and David Phinnemore said that The Treaty represented yet another deceitful and arrogant imposition of a revolutionary federalist agenda by the European elite aimed at minimizing national sovereignty and ignoring the clearly expressed desires of the European peoples. Minimizing national sovereignty is of course exactly what globalization does and which is what the globalist elite are after, total control.
Jean Monnet Professor in EU Politics Michael O'Neill said that The Constitutional Treaty was barely readable. James Melton said that European constitutions are more difficult to interpret than constitutions from any other region of the world. The European power elite made it incomprehensible so the European people would not even bother to try to understand it. Explaining its contents was not part of their propaganda, on the contrary. Already in 1999 Jean-Claude Juncker said: We decide on something, leave it lying around and wait and see what happens. If no one kicks up a fuss, because most people don't understand what has been decided, we continue step by step until there is no turning back.
Jean-Claude Juncker is the head of the European Commission. Before his promotion he turned Luxembourg in Europe's leading tax haven. In 2005, shortly after the first referenda, he said If it's a Yes, we will say 'on we go', and if it's a No we will say 'we continue'. He is also known for having said When it becomes serious, you have to lie A professional liar with an agenda.
...Dehaene turned his focus to Europe and played a key role in brokering an EU constitution. After referendums in France and the Netherlands rejected it, many parts of the plan were taken up by the Treaty of Lisbon that currently sets EU policy. It made me proud, he said.
Democracy is a big lie. These wolves in sheep's clothing propagate to be in favor of democracy but clearly act against it. The goal of these power elite is globalization which is contrary to democracy. It is their iron will and they will do anything to make it happen, with or without the consent of the people.
